Since 2001, Sam Gurvitch has been a Financial Advisor helping businesses and families optimize their resources to achieve their financial goals.
Sam takes a consultative approach with his clients, authoring financial plans and assisting them in managing both their personal wealth and business assets. Sam is process driven, not product driven. His clients are at the center of everything he does.
With a straightforward approach, Sam seeks to help clients grow and protect their assets – he listens, assesses, recommends, implements, monitors and adjusts as needed.
“I see myself as a financial GPS system for my clients, calculating routes they can consider taking to reach their financial destination. The client is the driver, and I am the GPS on their dashboard. As their situation, needs and preferences change, I recalibrate to offer them alternate routes. Then I implement strategies they select, keep them updated – both on their progress and about new opportunities, hold collaborative client review meetings and offer recommendations along the way. People work hard for their money, so I identify both traditional and creative ways to put their money to work hard for them.”
Sam helps individuals and families with financial planning, investments, retirement portfolios, social security options, pension elections, education funding, risk protection and estate planning. Sam incorporates creative tax saving strategies when developing financial plans for his clients. Implementing action items may include the use of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, annuities and insurance (life, disability and long term care).
Sam guides businesses and non-profit organizations in leveraging company retirement plans (ie 401Ks / 403Bs) and executive bonus compensation plans along with educational workshops to attract and retain talent, incentivize employees, bolster morale and increase productivity. Sam’s approach is designed to reduce both tax liabilities and existing benefit plan expenses for the employees and the organization itself. His approach is also designed to maximize company resources. Buy-sell agreements and key-employee insurance are among the financial vehicles deployed to mitigate risk. By helping executives address and manage all of these issues, Sam enables them to improve their bottom line while focusing more on their day-to-day operation and the growth of their organization.
With nearly 20 years of experience in the broker-dealer world, Sam began exploring alternative business models that would serve his clients better and provide them with a premium experience, along with low cost investment programs.
Determining he would not be able to accomplish his goals in the broker-dealer or wirehouse setting, Sam chose to take his practice into the future by joining the world of RIAs (Registered Investment Advisors).
In 2019, Sam established SDG Asset Management Group LLC ("SDG"), which utilizes Charles Schwab as custodian and clearinghouse ("Schwab") in conjunction with the Oxinas Partners RIA platform ("Oxinas"). With these relationships, SDG has access to technology designed to help Advisors provide a premium client experience by streamlining services and offering financial tools designed to help clients optimize their resources and achieve their goals.
Oxinas maintains contracts with vendors that cater to RIAs and Independent Financial Advisors. These vendors provide the technology, compliance services, data security, research, analysis and planning tools we use to meet the ever-changing needs of our clients and industry requirements.
Supported by the infrastructure of Schwab and Oxinas, our clients can now expect access to better technology, more investment options and more financial products than ever before.
Sam Gurvitch was born and raised in New York City. He is a graduate of Edward R Murrow High School and the State University of New York at Albany. Sam has worked for public officials including Brooklyn District Attorney Charles “Joe” Hynes, New York State Assemblyperson Adele Cohen and United States Senator, Charles Schumer. When Senator Schumer was serving as the Chair for the Banking and Insurance Committee in Congress, Sam’s interest in financial services was piqued, and ultimately, Sam decided to pursue a career that would help address the financial needs of those within his community. Soon afterwards, Sam expanded his geographic radius to take on clients throughout the country.
Sam is an Eagle Scout and remains active in scouting, volunteering for his sons’ local troop. Sam has also enjoyed coaching his sons’ little league and basketball teams. Sam and his wife, together with their three children are very active in their local community. In his free time, Sam enjoys playing baseball, tennis, camping, cooking, traveling and spending time with his family.
After careful consideration, our preferred custodian and clearinghouse is Charles Schwab (“Schwab”), though the choice belongs to the client of course. Here are some reasons why we feel confident utilizing and recommending Schwab.
Schwab is the leading custodian to independent investment advisors. It is the industry leader and the trusted custodian of over 3 million accounts. Schwab supports over 7,500 advisors with over $3.85 trillion* in assets under management, and boasts over 30 years of experience (since 1987) supporting the independent advisor and their clients. They serve more RIAs and hold more assets under management than any other custodian. (*As of November 2019).
